Yes, Core is free forever on self-hosted, with 3 seats, 25 collections, and 5 flows. Directus Cloud adds a hosting fee from $89/month. Qualifying orgs (under $5M revenue, fewer than 50 employees) can apply for the Open Innovation Grant and get the full feature set free.
What's the difference between Directus Cloud and a one-click partner deploy?
Directus Cloud is fully managed by us. A one-click deploy runs Directus on a managed partner like Railway. You own the deployment, they handle the hosting. Both skip the ops work, with different control tradeoffs.
Can I switch between Cloud, self-hosted, and partners later?
Yes. Your data and schema live in your database, not ours. Move any time. No lock-in.
Which databases does Directus support?
Bring your own SQL database. Postgres, MySQL, MariaDB, MS SQL, SQLite, or Oracle. Directus wraps it with instant REST and GraphQL APIs.
When should I contact sales?
When you need SSO at scale, custom LLM, offline mode, dedicated infrastructure, or custom contracts. Otherwise, start free in Cloud or self-hosted and upgrade later.
What is the Open Innovation Grant?
A free, full-featured Directus license for qualifying organizations (under $5M revenue, fewer than 50 employees). No caps on seats, collections, or features when self-hosted. On Cloud, the software is covered by the grant; the hosting fee still applies. Licenses renew yearly.
What AI features are included?
A built-in AI Assistant works inside the Studio on every tier, connected to OpenAI, Anthropic, or Gemini by default. The native MCP server lets external AI tools and agents work directly with your Directus data, and they follow the same access policies as human users. AI Translations are on Team and Enterprise. Custom LLM hosting is Enterprise.
